The *Tablature for Lute*, compiled by the 16th-century German lutenist and composer Sebastian Oxenkun, was published in 1558 as an arrangement for solo lute of the most advanced music of the time, including Latin motets, German psalms and songs, and Italian and French piecesall of the most cutting-edge music of the timearranged for solo lute and published in 1558. It offers a glimpse into the music popular at the courts of the time, featuring composers such as Josquin des Prez, Nicolas Gombert, and Ioannes (Johannes) Mouton.Oksenkun was a lute player in the service of Otto Heinrich, Elector Palatine. While lute arrangements (intabulations) of the time typically reduced polyphonic music to two or three parts, the lutenist Arend and the singer Christoph Brmester believed that Oxenkuns arrangement lent itself well to the addition of vocal parts, so they independently added vocal parts of their ow
