85th Anniversary of Silvestrovs Birth.A CD featuring performances by a choir from Munich, Kyivs sister citySilvestrov was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. As a member of the Kyiv Avant-Garde, he composed avant-garde works that were sometimes banned from performance during the Soviet era; however, in the 1970s, he shifted to music with a sense of tonality and a gentle, contemplative character, and in recent years, his popularity has been steadily growing. Sylvesterov regards the avant-garde music he once pursued as the endpoint of music history, and characterizes his recent works as music that resounds after music history has come to an end.This Requiem is a work that Silvestrov spent three years completing after the 1996 passing of his wife, Larisa Bondarenko, who was both a musicologist and a literary scholar.
