This is the legendary recording of Vivaldis The Four Seasons featuring Mutah (violin) and the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Karajan, released in 1984. This was Karajans final recording for EMI, and it is being reissued in a limited edition as a 180-gram analog LP featuring the original cover design. At the time, Karajan and the Berlin Philharmonic were at odds over the issue of clarinetist Sabine Meyer (b. 1959) joining the orchestra. In June 1984, just one week before the recording, an incident occurred at the Salzburg Whitsun Concert when Karajan abruptly canceled the Berlin Philharmonic and, at his own expense, brought in the Vienna Philharmonic to perform. The LP cover photograph was taken by the British royal photographer, Earl Snowdon, Anthony Armstrong-Jones (19302017).
