Three Cynical and Timely Stories from 20th-Century Classical MusicThis album features three cynical and timely stories from 20th-century classical music by Grard, Walton, and Stravinsky.All are Decca and Argo recordings that have been out of print for a long time, dating back to the 1970s. *The Plague* is a musical drama composed by Robert Grard after he was inspired by Albert Camuss 1947 novel *The Plague*; it centers on the catastrophe of the plague that suddenly swept through a city in French Algeria. This recording, the first made for Argo, is conducted with remarkable empathy by the Hungarian-born conductor Antal Dorati, who became a friend of the composer. Waltons *Faade*, recorded in 1972 and also released by Argo, holds a unique place as the composers only stereo recording of the score. The narrators are Peggy Ashcroft and Paul Scofield. The 1975 recording of *The Soldie
