Arthur Grumiaux (1921-1986) was a Belgian violinist. He studied under Georges Enesco in Paris. During World War II, his activities were limited due to his lack of cooperation with the Nazis, but after the war he began a spectacular career as a soloist. His repertoire ranged from Baroque to Classical, Romantic, and contemporary music. He is also remembered for his discovery of the long-lost score of Paganini’s Violin Concerto No. 4, which he resurrected and recorded for the first time (as shown on this recording). It is no exaggeration to say that his violin, with its lustrous tone and noble dignity, is the pinnacle of violin playing in the first half of the 20th century. Tobu Shoji Co.
