Bach’s organ music is performed on two organs at St. Jacobi Church in Lbeck: BWV 720, BWV 571, and BWV 770 on the large organ, an organ dating back to the 16th century that was put away during World War II and reinstalled after the war, which was further renovated in 2013. The other pieces are from the 15th century. The other pieces are on the Stellwagen organ, an organ from the 15th century that was expanded by Friedrich Stellwagen in 1637. Because of the existence of the large organ, the Stellwagen organ has been handed down to the present day without much modification. Alfito Gast was born in Bremen in 1962 and is an organist. After working as organist at St. Nikolai’s Church in Flensburg and as organ professor at the Felix Mendelssohn University of Music and Stage in Leipzig, he was appointed director of the Church Music Society at the Lbeck University of Music in 2004.
