Asako Kamidai studied at the Madrid Conservatory, graduating at the top of her class. After returning to Japan, she frequently traveled to Cuba to study under Frank Fernndez and learn Cubas unique musical traditions. This album, which could be called her lifes work, focuses on Creole musicborn from the blending of various ethnic groups in the Caribbeanspecifically on the music that emerged against the backdrop of the influence brought by immigrants who, beginning in Haiti in the 18th century, traveled from Cuba to New Orleans.
