Description:

Asassero Q’s Shostakovich complete! The latter part of the complete string quartet recording commemorating the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich’s death, this cycle of 15 pieces is a milestone of string quartet music representing the 20th century, and No. 14 and No. 15, written in the last years of his life, are especially deeply engraved with the composer’s attitude toward facing death. No. 14 was dedicated to Sergei Sirinsky, cellist of the Beethoven Quartet, and is impressive for its soloistic treatment of the cello. No. 15, which follows, consists of six slow movements and is pervaded by a meditative theme of death. The deeply insightful interpretation by the Asacello Quartet presents this important group of works from a new angle.Tokyo M-Plus
