The 1974 album ‘Summit’, a collaboration between Astor Piazzollaa musician representing not only Argentine tango but all of Argentine music, and a bandoneon playerand Jerry Mulligan, the legendary baritone saxophonist active since America’s golden age of jazz, is reissued on CD as ‘Reunin Cumbre’ in its original Argentine edition format! Recorded while Piazzolla was living in Italy with Italian musicians, this work clearly reflects his taste at the time, leaning towards a jazz-rock direction. Piazzolla composed seven tracks and Mulligan one, but this album might be heard more as world music than tango or jazz. That said, Piazzolla’s melancholic yet stern style, bordering on a certain anger, remains very much present here.
