This is a ballet video of two “works for children” by Ravel (1875-1937) and Prokofiev (1891-1953). This is a valuable piece for children’s introduction to ballet, as well as for adults who love ballet. Ravel’s opera “The Child and the Magic” is a fantasy involving a mischievous boy, furniture, and animals. The famous choreographer Kylian has adapted this work into a ballet, in which, like the original, the various characters are intertwined and perform characteristic dances. In the introduction to the ballet, Kylin says, “You will feel as if you have found a picture book that you lost in your childhood. Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” is another story loved by children. Here, students of the Royal Ballet School will show us their first dances. Anthony Dowell’s expressive narration is also charming.
