The Balwinski Duo was formed in 2012 by musicians from Poland and Ukraine, both of which are neighbors of Russia. The duo takes its name from a Ukrainian composer whose scores were all burned during the Stalin era and who was subsequently exiled to Siberia. Upon returning from his decade-long exile, Balwinski rewritten his major works from memory, which is why they can still be performed today. For this duo, the name symbolizes an indomitable spirit. The suite that opens this album consists of two songs, a lively humoresque, and a dancefour movements totaling approximately 23 minutes in playing time. The final track, The Dead Butterfly, was composed by the Polish musician Braiza, inspired by a scene he witnessed in 2022. It depicts a scene from a memorial service held on June 4 of that year at St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv to commemorate the children who fell victim to the Russian invasion, whe
