David Bednall is a British composer, pianist, and organist born in 1979, who is attracting attention from the choral world as a promising “post-Rutter” or “post-Chilcott” composer. The “Epiphoni Consort,” which makes its debut recording, is a new choir founded in 2014 by Tim Reeder, which in 2015 won first prize in the “Locus Iste Competition,” organized by the Tenebrae Choir and judged by Nigel Short, and has performed with the Tenebrae in concert. and also performs with Tenebrae in concert. Featured is the 40-voice motet “Light is for the Righteous (Lux orta est iusto),” which had its world premiere in 2015! Like Thomas Tallis’s 40-voice motet, “We are other than He (Spem in alium),” it is a large work sung by a 5 x 8 group of SATBB.
