This is the sequel to the collection of ethereal and beautiful piano pieces by Field, the pioneer of the nocturne. While the second half of the nocturne collection is even more substantial, it is based on a simple structurecontrasting the left-hand accompaniment patterns with the right-hand melodyso how is it that such beautiful music is woven from this? In fact, these simple yet beautiful works are quite demanding on the performer. In this regard, Fris is truly a specialist; his touch is exquisitely delicate, and he plays the piano as if gently caressing it, yet the melodies are sung to the fullest, and the ornaments shine like pearls. It would be a great loss to think of nocturnes from before Chopins time as merely immature, developing music. They might just be even more beautiful than Chopins!
