Description:

This is a collection of variations for piano by Stefan Heller, a Jewish-Hungarian composer active during the Romantic period. Heller’s works were mostly for piano, and he also worked as a pianist. He was friends with many of the great composers of his generation, including Chopin, Liszt, and Berlioz, and was well known in Europe at the time. Noteworthy is the Op.133 Variations. Beginning with the theme from the second movement of Beethoven’s “Sonata in Fervor,” it is a large work of over 30 minutes that skillfully weaves together phrases from symphonies and motifs from Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, and others. This is the world premiere recording by Sofia, Bulgaria-born pianist Biliana Tsinrikova. Tokyo M-Plus
