Description:

Released on self-produced cassette in the late 1980s with singer Bizimungu Diudonne and his wife and friends. Rooted in traditional Rwandan hymns, but incorporating ’80s studio techniques, their music culminated in hypnotic, lengthy jams unmatched in East Africa at the time. The lyrics celebrate the beauty of the countryside and the feats of ancient gods, while the acoustic pieces interspersed between the electric compositions call for unity in a divided country. Eerily foreshadowing the Rwandan genocide that was to follow, tragically all members of the group lost their lives, and their music was largely forgotten in the decades that followed. Miraculously, however, the couple’s children had the master recordings, and their reissue was made possible.
