As the name suggests, this 5-CD set is the first installment in a comprehensive collection of all recordings by Black Oak Arkansasa band hailing from Black Oak, Arkansas, that played dirty, manly, and gritty Southern rock.Although the bands origins date back to 1963, it wasnt until they centered around their one-of-a-kind frontman and natural-born showman, Jim Dandy Mangrum (lead vocals and washboard), that the band finally took shape. With a sound that fused Southern rock, hard rock, and country, and signed with ATCO, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. The lineup at the time consisted of Ricky Ricochet Reynolds on guitar, Stanley Goober Knight on guitar and organ, Pat Dirty Doherty on bass, and Wayne Squeeze Box Evans on drums.Their debut album, named after Black Oak in their home state of Arkansas (as you might imagine), was released in March 1971.
