The TV movie *The House Without a Tree*, which aired in the U.S. in 1972 and was adapted into a book by Gale Rock two years later, has been reimagined as an opera by Ricky Ian Gordona leading composer in the American opera worldand librettist Lois Buffreck. This album features the live recording of the premiere performance by Houston Grand Opera in December 2017. This family drama follows a family of threeJames, who cannot recover from the death of his beloved wife; his daughter, Addy; and Addys grandmother, who tenderly watches over heras they transform Christmas, a season of sorrow and resentment, back into a time of family happiness. Scenes that delicately portray the inner emotions of each character evoke empathy and
