NAXOS’ complete Brahms Lieder series. The sixth collection includes four duets and a solo song from his mature period. Brahms showed his deep expressive power not only in his solo songs but also in his duets. Op. 28, written in the composer’s late 20s, expresses the complexity of human relationships, the joys and pains of love, and the profound questions of life. Op. 58 is also a varied collection, with an Italianate lightness in the “Serenade,” while Op. 72 is more personal and introspective, depicting “the transience of life” throughout. Esther Valentin-Fiegt, who studied with Mario Hoff and Ulrich Eisenlohr at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne and has been a member of the Bavarian Radio Choir since 2022, and who sang the folk song cycle (8.574345, 8.574346) in this series Constantin Ingenpath performs.
