Birgit Nilsson (19182005) made her opera debut in 1946, made her opera debut as Agathe in *Der Freischtz* at the Royal Opera in Stockholm, and the following year, she attracted attention in *Macbeth*, conducted by Fritz Busch. She made her international debut in 1951 at the Glyndebourne Festival, singing the role of Elettra in *Idomeneo*, conducted by Busch. She went on to perform at the Vienna State Opera, the Bayreuth Festival, the Bavarian State Opera, La Scala in Milan, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Royal Opera in Ventgrden, becoming a respected and beloved figure as Swedens most internationally renowned soprano. The year 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of her birth in Vstra Kalp, Skne.
