Toward the end of the 18th century, Hofmeister (17541812) was one of the most popular composers. He composed a total of 25 flute concertos, and NAXOS is now beginning a recording project of the complete set. Today, he is also known as a great music publisher, having actively promoted the works of renowned contemporary composers such as Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven. There is no doubt that he was also a close friend to these composers. Hofmeister, in addition to leaving behind a diverse body of work as a composer, is believed to have written his flute pieces specifically for the many amateur musicians in Vienna at the time; their elegance is still cherished today. While they do not require astonishing virtuosity, they beautifully showcase the charm of the flute.Naxos Japan
