These works by forgotten composers revive the rich tradition of the *Lauda Spirituali*.Lauda Spirituali are congregational hymns that originated in medieval Italy; they are sung in the local language rather than in Latin, the liturgical language, and are associated with figures such as St. Francis of Assisi and Jacopone da Todi.Francisco Soto de Langa, born in Spain in 1534, joined the Sistine Chapel Choir in June 1562 and performed as a castrato.In Rome, he also met St. Philip Neri, the founder of the Oratorio.
