Carpe Diem String Quartet

Description:

Established in 2005, the internationally acclaimed American Carpe Diem String Quartets complete collection of string quartets by Taneyev (18561915) is now complete with this fifth volume. Although he was not very proactive about publishing his own works and left behind a relatively small body of music, the 11 surviving string quartets are technically sophisticated pieces that possess a solid, dignified style reminiscent of Beethoven and Brahms, making full use of magnificent counterpoint. This String Quartet No. 8 is also a rich and fulfilling piece, featuring a grand fugue in the final movement. The String Quintet included on this album is a work from his later years, dedicated to the memory of Palyayev, a Russian philanthropist and publisher who passed away in 1904. Recorded in 20142015.
