[Shanti Clears Long-Awaited Machaut Album!]Ahead of the 650th anniversary of the death of the medieval French poet and composer Guillaume de Machaut in 2027, Shanti Clear has recorded his masterpiece, the Notre-Dame Mass, along with a selection of his love songs. Shanti Clear, a leading mens a cappella choir from the U.S. West Coast, has a deep expertise in pre-Renaissance music and a prolific recording history; however, surprisingly, they have rarely performed medieval music other than Gregorian chant, so this full-scale project dedicated to Machauts works can be said to mark a new frontier for the group. Machaut, who was one of the foremost love poets of the 14th century alongside the Italian Petrarch, served as a canon at Reims Cathedral.
