Christian Ferras was born in Le Touquet, France, in 1933. His father introduced him to the violin at an early age; he entered the Nice Conservatory in 1941 and won first prize at a local competition there in 1943. The following year, he enrolled at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied violin with Georges Enescu and Ren Benedetti, and chamber music with Joseph Carve. He quickly distinguished himself, earning top honors in both chamber music and violin performance, and graduated from the conservatory at the age of 13. Following his Paris debut, he achieved outstanding results in competitions across the country. From around the age of 17, he began performing concerts and making recordings in earnest, appearing alongside Rampal, Enescu, Bhm, Schuricht, and Mnch.
