This recording captures the magnificent sound of the organ built in 1890 by the renowned organ builder Aristide Cavaill-Coll in high-quality SACD audio. Charles-Marie Widor (18441937) was one of Frances leading organists and composers. At the young age of 25, on the recommendation of Cavaille-Coll, he was appointed organist for life at the Church of Saint-Sulpice, a position he held for 64 years, during which time he composed numerous works for the organ. This Organ Symphony is a work that creates a symphonic sound without the use of an orchestra, allowing listeners to fully savor its magnificent sound. Performed by Christian Schmidt. (C)RS
