This project has been ongoing since Thielemann assumed the position of principal conductor in 2012, and with the release of Symphony No. 2, the complete set from No. 1 to No. 9 is now available. Although Bruckners Symphony No. 2 is performed less frequently than the highly popular Symphony No. 3 or his later symphonies, it is a work of great charm, marked by its lyricism, beauty, and depth. Like Bruckners other symphonies, several editions of this work exist. For this recording, Thielemann uses the edition prepared by William Carragan, an authority on the editing of Bruckners scores. Bruckner completed a symphony in D minor in 1869intended to be his Symphony No. 2, three years after composing
