Originally written as technical pieces intended to improve piano technique, Bach and Chopin imbued them with artistic value, and the genre has since evolved into a collection of character-driven miniatures. This album features Studies commissioned by pianist Christina Bjerke from 12 composers based in Denmark. It presents a colorful collection of works inspired by animals. From the humorous Badger to the mysterious Spider and the graceful Red-necked Stint, each piece is a unique work that captures the essence of its subject.Christina Bjerke is currently active as a pianist with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and as an associate professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Her recordings of Knudge Risas piano works (DACAPO 8.226004) and the complete piano works of Carl Nielsen (cpo 777413) have also been highly acclaimed.Naxos Japan
