Chouryonis is one of Lithuania’s most famous composers. During his lifetime, he was known for his activities as a painter, and his fantastic style was so highly regarded that it even influenced Kandinsky. As a composer, he composed more than 300 orchestral, chamber, and piano works, most of which remained unfinished and were lost during the two world wars, and thus did not gain the same popularity as his paintings. In addition, the paintings were not as popular as the paintings. Moreover, the two symphonic poems “In the Woods” and “The Sea,” which were premiered after his death, were cut and orchestrated slightly differently than the composer had intended, in accordance with the conventions of the time.
