Among J.S. Bachs vast body of instrumental works, the Works for Lute have long been the subject of debate regarding their authenticity and interpretive possibilities. The scores left behind by Bach, a master of the keyboard, contain many passages that are difficult to perform on instruments of that era, and this has long puzzled musicologists, who have questioned whether these works were truly intended for the lute.On this album, Claire Antoninione of Frances leading lute playershas transposed and rearranged these works based on manuscript sources to suit the characteristics of the 13-course Baroque lute.
