BSOrec, the Bavarian State Operas in-house label, presents its second video releaseA young girl named Gerda and a young boy named Kai are listening intently as their grandmother tells the story of The Snow Queen. That night, after going to bed but unable to sleep, Kai is terrified when the Snow Queen appears at his window. Captivated by the world of ice, Kais heart drifts away from Gerda, and one day, he is carried off by the Snow Queen. Gerda sets out alone on a perilous journey to rescue Kai, but*The Snow Queen* is the first opera by Hans Abrahamsen, a contemporary composer from Denmark. Abrahamsen has stated that his long-standing themethe musical expression of snowserved as the inspiration for composing this opera. Based on Andersens fairy tale *The Snow Queen*, the libretto was written and the music composed between 2014 and 2018, and the opera received its world premiere (in Danish)
