One of Buxtehudes (16371707) masterpieces, *The Body of Our Lord Jesus*, is a seven-part cantata cycle composed in 1680. It incorporates phrases quoted from sources such as the Song of Solomon, as well as a passage from Arnulf de Louvains *Rythmica oratio* (Rythmica oratio), address each part of Christs body as He hung on the cross, creating music of deep spiritual content and prayer that allows the listener to internalize Christs suffering and embrace His Passion. This performance marks the launch of a new partnership between OPUSARTE and the Oxford Magdalen College Choir, and Under the superb baton of conductor Daniel Hyde, the all-male choir (with boys singing the soprano parts) produces a meditative and mystical sound, while the ensemble Fantasma also traces this narrative with its ethereal timbre.Naxos Japan
