Danil Shafrans Signature Piece: Kabalevsky!Danil Shafran was one of the two giants of the Soviet cello world, alongside Rostropovich, who was four years his junior. In contrast to the bold and uninhibited Rostropovich, Shafran divided the audiences admiration with his poetic and humble performances. His three visits to Japan, during which he performed Kabalevskys Cello Concerto No. 2 with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, have become the stuff of legend.
