The mandolin is a plucked string instrument that originated in Italy. By the 17th century, it was not only used to add color to operas, oratorios, and chamber music, but was also highly regarded as a solo instrument. Composers active at the time, including Niccol Ceccherini, wrote works for the mandolin. This album focuses on the Six Partitas by Filippo Sauria composer who is virtually unknown todayand introduces outstanding mandolin solo pieces that were popular at the time. Saulis partitas blend French and Italian traditions and are characterized by their beautiful use of tremolo. The album also includes works by Ceccherini and Cappellinifeaturing world premiere recordingsas well as one piece from *The Book of the Mandolin*, compiled in 1703.The performer, Davide Ferrera, is a mandolinist from LAquila, Italy, born in 1992. He has collaborated with numerous ensembles, primarily in Italy, and
