This album marks the recording debut on Germanys Harmonia Mundi label for the duo of Davit Melkonian and Michael Baryan, both of Armenian descent and making waves in the field of period instrument performance.Bernhard Romberg (17671841) was an early Romantic German composer and cellist who contributed significantly to the development of the cello. He studied the cello under his father, gave his first concert at the age of seven, and performed with the Mnster court orchestra. From 1790 onward, he served as a musician in the Bonn-Cologne court orchestra, where he met Beethoven; records also exist of a quartet performance featuring Beethoven (va), Anton Ries (vn), and Bernhard Romberg (vc). In Paris, he was known as the Paganini of the cello. Romberg also worked to improve the cello as an instrument; by modifying the shape of the fingerboard and bridgemaking it easier to apply vibratohe facilit
