This song became known in 1965 through Dionne Warwick and The Silures’ American interpretation of ska. Buster and Dawn Penn reimported it a year later. Rather than early rocksteady, their arrangement slowed the tempo like late ska, fitting Burt Bacharach & Johnny David’s style better than the original. Released by Rio in the UK, the A-side was “Are You Sure”. Also composed by Burt Bacharach & Johnny David. Provided for Dionne Warwick’s album “Here I Am”. The B-side is “New Dance” (rocksteady), featuring Buster’s unique DJ style, laid-back approach, and whistling. Released in 1967. The track, stripped of the horn section from “Dark End of the Street” and treated with deep echo, truly shines when played on a sound system. Even 50 years later, it remains a timeless piece whose brilliance has not faded.
