[Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Esme Quartet portrays the bond and serenity of the Mendelssohn siblings, resonating across time]Formed in 2016 by four female musicians from South Korea, the Esme String Quartetwhich expanded its artistic scope in 2023 by welcoming Dimitri Murat on violapresents its first album. Titled Nuithe Korean word for older sister (or younger sister)this album centers on works by the Mendelssohn siblings and reflects the strong bond of trust the members have cultivated over the past decade, as well as the depth they have achieved as an ensemble. It contrasts Fannys only string quartet, written in 1834, with her brother Felixs String Quartet No. 6, composed shortly after her sudden death, which is notable for its austere expression. The String Quartet No. 6, in particular, is a key piece in Esmes repertoire that she has performed nearly 50 times over the past decade.
