The Zurich Opera House and Wagner share a close connection. The Zurich Opera Houses predecessor, the Aktien Theater, served as a stage for Wagner, who had left Germany and gone into exile in Switzerland at the time. After that theater was destroyed by fire, the current Zurich Opera House was built in 1891.
