The World’s First Video Recording!Florence, May 2, 1589. On this day, a grand celebration was held to mark the wedding of Ferdinand I, head of the Medici family, and Christina. To celebrate this joyous occasion for the head of the familya great patron of the arts in the 16th centurythe most important poets and musicians of the time gathered to perform a special play for the occasion: the comedy *La Pellegrina*. Although opera had not yet been born in the 16th century, the format of *Pellegrina*in which the story is linked by six interludesrepresented the early seeds of the opera that would later emerge.
