The Blanche Model of the Elegant Echoes of Louis XV and Louis XVI Pierre Thomas Dufour, a church organist active during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI, was born around 1721 and died in Paris on December 30, 1786, three years before the outbreak of the French Revolution. Little is known about Dufour’s life, and his only surviving work is a collection of clavecin (harpsichord) pieces published in 1770. The collection includes named works in the tradition of Couperin and Rameau, as well as two Italianate solo concertos, and concludes with the magnificent “Carillon,” which is modeled after a church bell. The performance is by Italian harpsichordist Fernando De Luca, who is dedicated to introducing unknown works. He will use a Blanche model harpsichord, which is a very popular instrument for music of the Louis XVI period, and will give us a beautiful and elegant sound.
