It was composed with some modifications to Metastasios libretto. However, it is by no means difficult to follow; the music has a light, accessible quality, and the quartet bursts with joyful agilit. Although accompanied by just a single piano, this actually lends the work a chic atmosphere, making it a salon opera that can be enjoyed in a relaxed, unpretentious setting. The composer, Manuel Garca (17751832), was also a renowned tenor. Rossinis *The Barber of Seville* was originally written for him.
