Sigismund Thalberg, a Swiss pianist and composer. At the age of 14, he studied piano with Moscheles in London and gave his first public concert in May of that same year. He subsequently studied under Hummel and Czerny, and in 1835 traveled to Paris, where he was met with great acclaim as a pianist.It is said that in 1837, he faced off directly against Liszt in a performance, and was praised with the remark: Talberg is the worlds greatest pianist; Liszt is the worlds only pianist. This album is a single-disc release from a 6-disc box set released in May 2021 (originally released by MARCOPOLO) and features five works based on melodies from Donizettis operas. While making full use of dazzling virtuosity, each piece offers a stylish interpretation of Donizettis beautiful melodies and is thoroughly captivating.
