A collection of chamber music works by the great Swedish composer Berwald, performed by the Franz Ensemble, composed primarily of members of the German KammerphilharmonieFranz Adolf Berwald (17961868) was a 19th-century Swedish composer. Although he did not receive favorable reviews during his lifetime, he has undergone a remarkable reappraisal in the 20th century as opportunities for performances and recordings have increased. Born into a musical family in Stockholm, he aspired to become a composer and studied in Berlin, Vienna, and Paris. However, due to financial difficulties, he spent a period of hardship as a composer, working at an orthopedic clinic and managing a glassware factory. In his later years, he returned to Sweden to devote himself to composing; although he secured a professorship at the Stockholm Conservatory, his health deteriorated, and he passed away the following year.
