The long-awaited second single from the back-alley rock ‘n’ roll band “Hootenzoku,” who have been slowly drawing attention from the back alleys of the city, features their popular 1972 cover of Bessie Smith’s “Hustlin’ Dan,” a Japanese translation by Maki Asakawa, and is packed full of the privileges of their twin-guitar lineup. The B-side features a simple, repetitive riff and rhythm that could be described as a Hootenes’ version of folk dance, with lyrics that are full of their “character. Both sides were recorded at Shibuya B.Y.G., a living witness of Japanese rock history. This concept single is a new version of the legendary rock cafe atmosphere that has remained at the forefront of Japanese rock music from its early days to the present day. (C)RS
