This is the second collection of Beethoven-Liszt symphonies by Baldacci, who was discovered by Martha Argerich. In the first collection (CDS731), Baldacci tackled the relatively gentle works No. 1 and No. 6, but this second collection focuses mainly on “No. 3. This arrangement of Beethoven’s early great work, “Symphonie des Heroes,” which Liszt carefully arranged for solo piano while paying close attention to tone, is extremely difficult to perform, especially the variations in the last movement, which is known as a difficult piece requiring a variety of tones and techniques. Baldacci’s performance fully satisfies the many demands of the piece and leaves the listener satisfied.
