The history of the chanson dates back a long way; during the Middle Ages, various schools of chanson emerged, including not only popular songs but also courtly songs and songs by troubadours. Furthermore, toward the end of the 18th century, choral marches became popular under the influence of the French Revolution, and subsequently, from the 19th to the 20th century, masterpieces by composers such as Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc, and Milhaud were created.The avant-garde work by Philippe Scherer, featured toward the end of this album, was premiered by the North German Radio Choir in October 2013.Tokyo M-Plus
