The diversity of the two stringed instruments, violin and cello, is brought out to its fullest, and the program includes a number of fine works that caused a stir in the field of chamber music in the 20th century. The two string players, Fabiola Gaudio and Marco Simonacci, who both studied at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, give us a fascinating look at the string “duo” in 20th century Europe with their performances.
