The historic city of Leipzig is known as the holy land of Bach. Bach spent most of the latter half of his life as cantor (music director) at St. Thomas Church. This festival is the worlds largest celebration of Bachs music, featuring concerts by leading Bach experts from around the globe and drawing a massive gathering of Bach enthusiasts from all over the world. The performances that drew the most attention at the 2013 festival were Gardiners St. John Passion and the Mass in B minor performed by the St. Thomas Church Choir and the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
