This recording of Liszts program symphonies features the Hungarian prodigy Madarsh, who rapidly rose to prominence in Japan after conducting the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra and the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra in 2022, and the NHK Symphony Orchestra in 2023 and 2026. This is the follow-up to his 2024 release, the *Faust Symphony* (BISSA2510), which was met with great acclaim. Liszt had been an avid reader of *The Divine Comedy* since his youth and composed the piano piece While Reading Dante in 1837. He began sketching this symphony around 1847 and completed it with advice from Wagner, among others. The piece opens with the highly dramatic Inferno, moves through Purgatorio, and concludesas if purifiedat the end of the Magnificat accompanied by a female chorus.
