A collection of art songs by the German composer Friedrich Gernsheim (18391916). He was born in Worms, in southwestern Germany. He was one of the leading German composers of the late 19th century and held a prominent position in Berlin during his later years, but he was completely forgotten in the latter half of the 20th century due to Nazi anti-Jewish policies. In recent years, however, there has been a rapid resurgence in interest in his work, and CDs featuring his symphonies and chamber music have been released. This is believed to be the first time Gernsheims art songs have been compiled onto a single CD.
