Gram, the project of London-born singer-songwriter Ella Smoker. She released her debut album, The Garden Dream, on Secretly Canadian. As she got older, Ella Smoker realized that her subconscious was trying to tell her “some pretty strange things”. The “thoughts” would come to the 21-year-old singer-songwriter’s mind in dreams or while writing lyrics in studio sessions. The words come to her before she even understands what they are. ‘As soon as I start making music, my brain turns off. I can sit down and write something that sounds like crap, but a month later I look back and think, ‘Oh. It all comes from a place where I didn’t even realize it,” she explains.
